やめる
stop
動作や行為をやめる・中止するという意味で使います。
・stop chatting (おしゃべりをやめる)
・stop walking (立ち止まる)
The boys stop fighting.
（少年たちは喧嘩をやめた。）
※stop〜ing （〜することをやめる）
Everyone stopped talking as soon as the teacher came into the room.
（先生が部屋に入ってきたらすぐにみんな話をやめた）
※stop to 〜（〜するために立ち止まる）
I stopped to talk to my friends there.
（そこにいた友達に話しかけるために立ち止まった）
quit
仕事や学校、喫煙、飲酒などを意図的にやめるという意味で使います。
・quit one's job (仕事をやめる)
・quit school (学校をやめる)
I quit my job in order to travel around the world.
（世界旅行をするために仕事をやめました。）
